Our TEA

High in Sri Lankan mountains lies “Golden Valley” – home of finest Ceylon tea since 1869.

Today tea produced in these gardens does not leave Carbon Footprint in the atmosphere. In the future this valley will become a Greenhouse Gas (GHGs) sink. Meaning the gardens will absorb CO2 from the atmosphere while still producing finest Ceylon tea.

How is it done?

Gardens in the valley employ hydro and solar power for their electric needs. Currently the combined power generated by the renewable sources is approximately 13gWh annuals and saves approximately 30,000 tons of GHGs emissions per year.

Various types of forestry are developed in the valley.

Conservation Forestry helps protect jungles and sensitive areas, it improves ecosystem, enhances biodiversity and spreads natural habitats of local fauna.

Plantation Forestry provides timber needs for the local population while stopping deforestation. It also provides local population with herbs fruit and vegetables for their daily needs. Up until now over 600,000 trees were planted in the valley and the goal is to reach 1,000,000 by the end of 2020.

Soil preservation and organic farming – various techniques are used to reduce the pesticide and fertilisers usage in the tea gardens. Reduce, re-use and recycle concept is applied in everyday processes helping to improve efficiency and reduce waste making Sustainability an everyday fact in the Golden Valley.
